Reading and Home Learning
Children need to bring their reading books to school every day. They will read individually and have a Guided Reading session each week. Guided reading is when children read a book in a group and then discuss the characters and events in the book. When reading a non-fiction book they will study the layout of the text and learn to use the Contents and Index pages to aid their research. Children will be taught to read with fluency and expression.
Please try to hear your child read at home several times a week and then discuss the book and story with them, as this really helps with reading comprehension and understanding of texts. Please write a comment in their reading diary so that we know how they are getting on at home, we love to hear about all of the exciting reading that has happened!
Children will also be tested on their spellings and times tables throughout the week in school. Spellings will be sent home to learn on a Wednesday and will be tested the following Wednesday. MyMaths homework will also be set occasionally.
Please communicate with us through your child’s reading diary or by letter if you need to. If someone other than parents will be collecting your child you MUST authorize this in writing for your child’s safety.
If you are able to lend a hand in the classroom, please let me know! Help is always appreciated, either regularly or on the odd occasion. This will be to either hear readers, practice times tables or as an extra pair of hands during an art activity. Thanks in advance!
Letters and Downloads
Class Time Table
Tuesday & Wednesday – please ensure children have got full kit (school T shirt, shorts or joggers, trainers or daps) on both of these days.
Please remember that children are not allowed to do PE with earrings (even if they are taped) unless it is less than 6 weeks since they had them pierced. It is, therefore, much easier if they do not wear them these days unless they are confident to take them out themselves. Long hair must also be tied up.
Show and Tell
We do not have regular show and tell sessions but your child may bring in any writing/maths or pictures they have done at home that are relevant to our current topic. Children should not bring in toys of any sort for show and tell as this is not the purpose.
